King praises Bahraini businessmen’s role in supporting economy


His Majesty King Hamad yesterday praised Bahraini businessmen’s role in supporting the economy and their achievements in the trade, industry and investment sectors.

He made the remarks as he received, at his residence in Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat, a delegation of Bahraini businessmen who accompanied him on his visit to Turkmenistan.

The King noted Bahrain’s keenness to provide a proper business environment. He highlighted Bahrain’s investment facilities, laws and legislation and advanced infrastructure which strengthens Bahrain’s standing as a key international trade centre.

The King welcomed Bahraini trade and economic activities and visits to Arab and friendly countries to establish investment and economic projects, looking forward to opening new horizons of economic co-operation between Bahraini businessmen and their Turkmen counterparts, which would contribute to increasing the volume of trade.

The businessmen briefed the King on the Bahraini-Turkmen Business Forum and the agreements signed – which would contribute to promoting the economic and trade co-operation.

They welcomed royal keenness to boost the private sector’s role in development.

The King hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the Bahraini business delegation.

The Memoranda of Understanding signed at the forum include:

  • MoU signed between Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was sealed by BCCI chairman Sameer Nass in the presence of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani and Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan Amandurdy Ishanov.

  • MoU signed between Gulf Petrochemicals Industries Company (GPIC) and Türkmengaz for the study of petrochemicals projects and another with Türkmen Kimya in the field of chemical fertilisers. The two agreements were signed by GPIC chairman Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery, in the presence of Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and State Minister of Turkmenistan and Turkmengas chairman Myrat Archayev.

Electricity and Water Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, Bahrain National Gas (Banagas) chief executive Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and Economic Development Board chief executive Khalid Al Rumaihi were also present. The forum also featured a panel discussion on private sector opportunities for Turkmenistan in Bahrain.
