New bloc to contest BCCI polls
Sixteen business owners have come together to form the Sharaka Bloc for contesting the upcoming elections for a new board of directors at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
The bloc is led by the board’s outgoing vice-chairman Khalid Al Zayani and includes Ramez Alawadee, Ahmed Al Saloom, Abdulwahab Al Hawaj, Riyad Al Bayrami, Ahmed Bin Hindi, Abdulhusain Dawani, Abdulhakeem Al Shammari, Dr Lamya Mahmood, Mohammed Sajid, Mohammed Fakhro, Nasser Al Ahli, Nabeela AlKhayer, Shaikha Hind Salman Al Khalifa, Isa Abdulrahim and Ali Hasan Mahmood.
The bloc’s spokesman Mr Abdulrahim said the members were also keen to support some independent candidates, especially young people.
The bloc’s agenda is to:
l Propose ideas and plans via a sector-specific strategy and actions necessary to implement the strategy within the framework of the government’s general policy
l To solicit trade and business opinion and reactions on government projects, proposals and laws, and convey such views to parliament and Shura Council
l Present proposals to each minister and get involved in the drafting of laws and policies.
The election is scheduled to be held on March 10 from 8am to 10pm at the Isa Cultural Centre in Juffair.
