From Her Majesty’s Ambassador

I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to represent the United Kingdom in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Our two countries share a long and special history. And we are strong partners in many fields.

I arrived in Bahrain at the start of September and everything I was promised about my wife, sophie, and I being made to feel welcome, by Bahraini’s and Brits alike, has delivered.

From His Majesty, to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness the Prime Minister and ministers I have so far had the pleasure of meeting, continuing to build strong business, trade and investment links is a shared priority.

As the Government of Bahrain pushes ahead with its ambitious reform programme, the UK, as a close friend, remains committed to providing assistance to Bahrain, to help ensure effective implementation of the proposed political, economic and social reforms. Economic development and growth remains an important element in helping reforms take root.

I share the Government of Bahrain’s vision for ensuring more UK companies come to Bahrain and that there should be more Bahraini investment in the UK. As we look ahead to celebrating 200 years of friendship, UK Trade and Investment, the BBBF and the EDB, together, can make a real difference in exploiting the opportunities here and in the UK, to develop our relationships still further and drive forwards mutual ambitions, in the interests of our two countries and peoples.

As Ambassador, this is one of my most important objectives. I look forward to working with the BBBF and you, my fellow BBBF members, in this exciting challenge.

Simon Martin CMG H. M. Ambassador
